Once an important and prosperous city, Lindos is ancient Greece to a tee. As you approach Lindos, there's no mistaking the mountaintop fortress of the Acropolis, perched more than 120 metres above the sea. It crowns a headland whose slopes are covered in trees the whitewashed homes of the village. Such was the importance of Rhodes and Lindos throughout the centuries, that the Knights of St John erected walls in the 13th century to protect the citadel.
