Un poco de historia
Perched high above the city, Gibralfaro Castle, known to locals as Castillo de Gibralfaro, is one of Malaga’s most iconic landmarks and a proud symbol of its history. Built in the 14th‑century by the Nasrid rulers of Granada, the fortress was designed to protect the Alcazaba below and defend the city from invaders. It’s seen its fair share of battles and sieges, but these days it’s all about the views.
Getting to the top is half the experience. You can climb the pine-lined paths if you’re up for a mini workout, hop on the local bus to give your legs a break, or simply drive up and park near the entrance. Whichever way you choose, the reward is the same – world-class views over Malaga Bay. Once there, you can stroll around the castle grounds, pop into the small museum to check out weapons, uniforms and maps that bring its military past to life, and snap photos from the lookout points – the port, bullring, cathedral and the Mediterranean are in the backdrop. Plus, if you stick around for sunset, Malaga glows in golden light, serving up one of its finest views.
