Nîmes, often dubbed the French Rome, is home to one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Built 20 years after the Colosseum in 70 AD, its perfectly preserved external facade certainly packs a punch. Similarly to Rome’s stellar – and slightly larger – monument, Nimes Amphitheatre was once the site of gladiator flights and public spectacles.
