History buffs and foodies assemble for this half-day ramble through Cadiz's historic old town. As you weave your way through the jumble of narrow streets, you'll be spotting some of the city's best-loved landmarks and stopping for traditional tastes at bustling market stalls. But the sights begin even before you enter the city, as you cross the 5km New Bridge that connects Cadiz, offering panoramic views of the coastline – grab a window seat if you can!
Your walking tour kicks off at Plaza de la Constitucion, an entry point to the old town where modern boulevards give way to a tangle of alleyways and lanes. Your guide will lead the way, telling you all about the lively plazas, city walls and centuries-old churches that you'll pass on your way to Mercado de Abastos. At this buzzy street food market, you'll taste three different cheeses from the Sierra de Cadiz, as well as chicharrones, slices of traditional, slow-cooked pork. Pair these nibbles with a local wine or a cold beer before taking a leisurely stroll around the market.
Next up is the jewel in Cadiz's crown, the 18th-century cathedral. You'll tour the outside of the building, which is more like a work of art with its Baroque and Neo-classical design, and hear all about its history and architecture from your guide. Then, you'll round off the visit with a true taste of Cadiz, tortillita de camarones. These crisp shrimp fritters are the go-to eat here and you can enjoy them with a glass of local wine or beer. A tasty end to a treat of a tour.
