Wspaniała Bazylika Świętego Piotra nie ma sobie równych. Jest to jeden z największych kościołów katolickich na świecie, który stanowi symbol watykanu oraz serce kultury chrześcijańskiej.
Dzieła Bramante, Michała Anioła, Maderno i Berniniego nadają katedrze renesansowe piękno. Możesz być pewien, że to będzie jedyne swojego rodzaju doświadczenie! Nigdzie indziej nie zobaczysz takiej architekrury i dzieł artystycznych, co w Bazylice świętego Piotra. Pamiętaj tylko, aby zadbać o odpowiedni strój i nie daj się złapać w szortach – zasady ubioru są surowe.
Warto poznać trochę historii tego miejsca. Papież Juliusz II zlecił Bramante zbudowanie Bazyliki św. Piotra. Zbudowano ją w miejscu grobu św. Piotra i tam, gdzie były pozostałości kościoła z IV wieku. Ukończenie budowy tej majestatycznej katedry zajeło ponad 100 lat!. Po śmierci Bramante w 1514 roku, budowa staneła na chwilę w martwym punkcie. Kolejnym artystą, który podjął się tego zadania był Michał Anioł, jednak i on nie doczekał zakończenia budowy. Giacomo della Porta i Domenico Fontana nadzorowali budowę kopuły, a Carlo Maderno ukończył projekt.
