Introducing Alton
Alton is a lively market town and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is located across a valley on the source of the River Wey. The town is home to one of the UK’s biggest theme parks, Alton Towers Resort. Thrill seekers can delight in heart-racing rides such as Galactica, where you can experience feeling of flight, The Smiler, which holds the world record for most inversions on a roller coaster, and Oblivion, with its spine-chilling vertical drop. Little ones can enjoy rides and attractions at CBeebies Land, such as Peter Rabbit Hippity Hop and Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure. The resort also incorporates a water park with lazy rivers, high speed water slides and pools, as well as a spa, mini golf and a hotel complex.
If theme parks are not your thing, then the town of Alton is a great place to explore. The surrounding landscape is beautiful and there are many long-distance footpaths for walking or cycling. Literary buffs can visit Jane Austen’s House Museum in the nearby village of Chawton. Visit the 17th century cottage and see where the famed novelist spent the last eight years of her life. And if you’re looking to uncover more of the local history, then head to the Curtis Museum which explores the region’s past and displays a wide range of artefacts from history.
