The inside story
Merely 9 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam lies the award-winning Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, also known simply as Schiphol Airport. Schiphol Airport is the Netherlands' main international airport and is the third busiest in Europe when it comes to passenger traffic. In addition to the usual shopping and dining, passengers travelling through Schiphol will find amenities such as spas, a casino, the Airport Park green space, and even a branch of the famous Rijksmuseum.
Schiphol Airport is widely regarded as one of the world's best airports and it's easy to see why. It has a sleek, modern-yet-practical architectural design with a single terminal layout that splits into three large departure halls. The airport first started operating as a local military airbase in 1916 until slowly converting to civilian use after the end of the First World War.
