The inside story
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the city the Belfry of Bruges truly stands out from the rest.
Soaring at more than 80 metres, this Gothic spire is perched in the heart of Bruges' historic centre. Built in 1240, the Belfry of Bruges was added to the market square when Bruges became an important centre for Flemish cloth, making this area thrive.
It would serve as a lookout point for incoming fires and other dangers as well as housing the treasury and the municipal archives.
