Perched between St Bavos Cathedral and St Nicholas' Church, the Belfry of Ghent holds a special place in the community's heart. Also known as 'Belfort van Gent', the 14th-century tower has served as Ghent's defender and silent guardian ever since. For centuries this building has resisted wars, political crises, famines and plagues alongside the town's trusty mascot – the Gilded Copper Dragon –.
