The inside story
The White House is known for being the residence and workplace of every US president since 1800 when John Adams held the position. Located in Washington, D.C., the infamous site is a striking presence on Pennsylvania Avenue and hosts around 6,000 visitors a day.
It took eight years for the White House to be built, with construction beginning in 1792 and ending in 1800. Designed by Irish architect James Hoban, the presidential residence features a neoclassical style. Aquia Creek sandstone was utilized and famously painted the iconic white to construct this masterpiece.
