Joan Miró was a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramicist whose defining Surrealist style made him one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. In 1975, Fundacio Miró was set up according to Joan Miró's vision to house his private collection. The architectural genius behind its design, Josep Lluis Sert, created a harmonious environment to celebrate the dialogue between the artworks and their setting. Exclusively for National Geographic travellers, you will enjoy early entry to the museum before it opens to the public.
On your guided tour, you'll be joined by an architect specializing in Miró's collaboration with Sert. Miró wanted to encourage younger artists to experiment with contemporary art, so together, Miró and Sert conceived a museum that encapsulated not only Miró's artistic brilliance but also the interplay of light, space, Mountjuic's landscape, and architectural finesse—a space tailored to frame each artistic masterpiece. This guided tour will take you to the museum's emblematic spaces highlighting the most significant aspects of Sert's design.
On this tour you’ll also have the chance to visit the terraces with breathtaking views of the city and, when you reach the museum’s library collection, in an experience available only to National Geographic travellers, the librarian will guide you through the artist’s personal books.
Afterwards, enjoy a glass of Cava, a traditional Spanish sparkling wine, or your preferred alternative surrounded by sleek modern architecture and picturesque courtyard views.
