The inside story
Gdańsk Main Town Hall is one of the finest examples of the Gothic-Renaissance historic buildings in the city. The beginning of the construction of the Town Hall dates back to the first half of the 14th century (1379). In the following centuries Gdansk returned under Polish jurisdiction, the town flourished and the Town Hall was enlarged.
It is an impressive building, including 5 tall stories and a tower rising 83 meters. At the top stands the statue of King Sigismund Vasa, who stands there taking a look across the town. Today the Town Hall is the headquarters of the Historical Museum of Gdansk and is open to visitors.
