Step into the Grecian world of pastel houses lining fishing harbours, rustic pottery in rural villages and the golden elixir of freshly pressed olive oil. This full-day tour in Polish shows off the island of Lesbos in all it's glory with a taste of its prized resource, as local guide, Marianne, explains, “the olive oil here is some of the highest quality in Greece, if not the world, thanks to our volcanic soil. You'll be treated to a tasting at a family-owned olive oil company that's been running on the island since the 1980s.”
Your journey begins at Papadelis Olive Oil Company, where you'll be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at how they produce their olive oil. You'll hear all about the island's history with these fruits, which goes all the way back to the Bronze age, as you taste the local olives, oil and cheese.
Then, it's on to the bustling seaside town of Mytilini. You've got plenty of free time here to wander the tangle of wisteria-covered lanes that wind their way back from the thriving harbour and take your time to browse the shops and watch the world go by. Your last stop in Lesbos is the ancient mountain village of Agiassos, which is nestled on the slopes of the legendary Mount Olympus. Surrounded by pine trees and olive groves, this village is famous for its pottery and wood carvings that show off the craftmanship that's part of its heritage. In your free time here, make sure you check out the ceramics and pop into a cafenion – a local Greek coffee house.
