Take a break from the coastal heat with a day trip to Shimba Hills National Reserve, located above Diani in Kwale County. Known for its rare Sable antelope, the reserve also hosts elephants, buffalo, impalas, warthogs, and a variety of birds and butterflies.
Start with a short game drive upon arrival, then visit Sheldrick Falls, a stunning 82-foot waterfall with a natural plunge pool for a refreshing shower. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive through the park and head to the lodge for a late lunch.
In the afternoon, relax at the lodge with views of the Mwaluganje Sanctuary and distant elephants. On clear days, you can see the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania. Conclude the day with a drive back to your beach hotel.
