Your journey starts with pick-up from Muscat, heading to the Nizwa Fort and the Nizwa Souk. From there, you'll travel to the village of Birkat Al Mauz. A scenic 36 km drive along a serpentine road leads you to Jebel Al Akhdar, perched 2,000 metres above sea level. This "Green Jewel" of the Al Hajar mountain range is a rare gem in the Arabian Peninsula, offering a refreshing cool climate.
Jebel Al Akhdar is famous for its terraced fruit orchards that cling to the mountain slopes, fed by natural springs and ancient 'aflaj' irrigation systems. Here, you'll find an abundance of fresh fruits such as peaches, apricots, figs, and grapes. The landscape is dotted with the villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib, and Al Ain, providing views of dramatic peaks, gorges, and wadis.
In the months of March and April, the air is perfumed with the scent of Jebel Al Akhdar’s roses, and rose water is still traditionally distilled in the homes of local villagers. Your visit includes either a picnic lunch box or a meal at a local restaurant, allowing you to savour the local flavours while soaking up the panorama.
