Opened in 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum – or GEM, as it’s also known – is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilisation. On this trip, you’ll wander among more than 100,000 artefacts, all shown off in a modern space that brings Egypt’s past to life. Noura, one of our local expert guides, says, “this TUI Collection experience makes everything simple, you’ll fly from Sharm to Cairo, see the Pyramids up close, visit GEM and check out Tutankhamun’s treasures with experts who share the stories behind them.”
Your adventure starts in Sharm El Sheikh, where you’ll be picked up at your accommodation and whisked off to the airport. After a quick flight to Cairo, you’ll head straight for the Giza Plateau, home to the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. Built over 4,500 years ago, these incredible structures formed the royal burial complex for the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. You’ll have time to roam the site and stand beneath the Sphinx, which been keeping an eye on visitors for thousands of years. After that, you’ll grab lunch at a local spot.
Then, it’s time to step inside GEM itself. You’ll head up the Grand Staircase, passing 64 massive monuments that walk you through the rise of Egypt’s greatest kings. As you drift through the galleries and wander the landscaped garden areas around them, you’ll feel ancient Egypt revealing itself bit by bit in a way that’s fascinating and easy to take in. You’ll also get to see the Tutankhamun Gallery, where over 5,000 treasures of his are displayed side by side for the first time since their discovery in 1922. After a jam-packed day of eye-opening history, you’ll make your way back to Sharm.
