The inside story
St. Pauli is a district of Hamburg on the bank of the Elbe river. The district dates back to the 17th century and is located nearby the "Landungsbrücken", the landing stages of the port. Most known for its famous red light district area on the Reeperbahn, St. Pauli is also home to one of the most famous soccer clubs in Germany, FC St Pauli. The club plays their games at Millerntor Stadium which can be found in the middle of the district.
Whether you are a fan of soccer or not, St. Pauli is worth visiting; especially the Reeperbahn. It is one of the two centres of Hamburg's nightlife that attracts culture-lovers and the street is filled with many bars, clubs, musicals, theatres, and live music venues. In fact, the legendary rock band The Beatles got their first bit of stardom here in the early 1960s where they would perform at various music venues. You can visit the Beatles-Platz square and see five life-sized silhouettes that represents the group.
