Your cruise starts at the Katwijk Turning Basin and follows the Old Rhine past Valkenburg, known as Praetorium Agrippinae in Roman times. More than 2,000 years ago, this area was part of the Roman Empire. Near Katwijk aan Zee, the Limes marked its northern border by the North Sea and is one of the Netherlands' largest archaeological monuments.
You'll continue via the Vliet past Leiden, a medieval city that was once a centre of the cloth trade. From the Zijl, the route leads into the Kagerplassen lake area. After crossing the lakes, you'll pass Warmond, Oegstgeest and Rijnsburg before returning to the Katwijk Turning Basin after approximately three hours.
